I've gotten a lot of questions about my name. Oo-boy! Mommy & Papa tried to pick an Indian name that has good meaning and was easy for the American folk to deal with. My name is of Sanskrit origin and in Hindi, Siyona means "graceful, beautiful, auspicious".
SIYONA (See-yo-na)
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI am from India expecting a baby girl in 5 weeks. I really like the name Siyona. Since its rare, I just wanted to know what kind of reaction do u get from people when they hear this name?
Thanks,
Smee
Hi Smeebond,
ReplyDeleteMost people say that its lovely and unique name but sometimes people in U.S. misunderstand it for "FIONA" (Shrek's princess) :)) and some people in India react by saying, "Oh! so you guys chose an English name for your girl" ..........but anyways, we just love this name and its totally Indian and of Sanskrit origin!!
Best wishes for the baby on your way :))) Have wonderful motherhood!!!
Hi Ekta
ReplyDeleteWe named our daughter Siyona as well for pretty much the same reasons i.e. relatively easy for Brits to pronounce whilst still being a legitimate Indian/Sanskrit name.
My son likes to quote her name along with "pronounced like Fiona, with an S"
Best wishes
Raj & Vimmi
Hi Raj and Vimmi, My daughter lives in the UK and I named her Siyona. The challenge is brits pronounce her name as Sayona. We try correcting and say it's like Fiona! How old is your daughter, we should get them to connect.

Hi Ekta,
ReplyDeleteMy parents who lived in India wanted to find a Sanskrit name for my daughter. They came up with names like Shatakshi etc - I had to tell them that Shatakshi will become Shat in the UK! :-) :-) Finally, I found the name myself and both Siyona and my company got named the same! My company's name is SiyonaTech (www.siyonatech.com).
